The Celestix Load Balancer (CLB) is the easy-to-use appliance that delivers one of the most cost-effective solutions available for IP load balancing.
CLB's ensure the reliability, performance, and high availability of your application infrastructure by providing failover capabilities during server failure and distributing traffic across multiple servers.
Server Load Balancing
CLB offers several load balancing methods to distribute traffic across servers, including simple weighted round-robin, random, client address hashing and “least resource” based on agent supplied information. Using a built-in intelligent health check engine that monitors the health of all the servers in the load balancing pool, CLB can seamlessly switch the traffic when there is a server failure.
Deployment Diagram – Server Load Balancing

Celestix CLB is used to provide fail-over and redundancy for many commonly deployed enterprise services, which include:
-
Web Applications (Microsoft Sharepoint, Microsoft Outlook Web Access, etc.)
-
Security gateways ( Firewalls, SSL VPN, URL filtering, SPAM, Anti-virus, etc.)
-
Microsoft Terminal Services
-
Servers providing SMTP services
Feature Highlights
- Layer 2 (Ethernet) based software load balancer
- Layer 4 Load Balancing
- Session persistence based on client address and optional source port.
- Backup targets (hosts) specifiable in case of failure of all primary targets.
- Server Health check Engine via: PING, TCP Socket Open and freely Customizable UDP Health Check Agent.
- Real-time alerting via Email and SNMP traps.
- Increase reliability by operating in active-passive clusters
- Support for multiple instances of Load Balancer
- Session and packets/bytes based reporting for each instance
- Easy to use Web-based UI for configuration and reporting
- Easy to use Configuration Wizard for configuration of instances, targets and networks
- Out of the box experience - product can be up and running in 20 minutes
- Distribution methods: Round Robin, Simple Weighted Round Robin, Random, Client Address Hashing and "Least Resource" based on agent supplied information
- Direct Server Return (DSR) operation support
- Unchanged client addresses on IP-level
- Multi-node High Availability capability using standard VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol)
- "All service load balancing" based on client IP address enables most protocols to be supported (e.g. active FTP, RTSP/RTP/RTCP, DNS etc.)
- Session table with up to 16 million concurrent sessions
- Full support of session table state replication / session synchronization between VRRP master and backup
- Six 10/100/1000 autosensing full duplex Ethernet ports - front facing for convenient access
CLB is based on the Celestix’s fourth generation Scorpio X appliance platform. The Scorpio X has been finely tuned to provide a compelling price/performance ratio as a hardware platform.
Slingshot Appliance Engine includes:
- Setup, routing, NIC configuration, local users, software updates,
- Reboot/restart, log file viewing, ongoing monitoring, etc.
- Advanced software updates engine
- Disaster recovery - One-button system rollback to a factory default state
- Purpose-built appliance hardware platform
- LCD/jog dial for instant deployment and status info
- Optimized Celestix motherboard results in high reliability
- Half-depth 1U form factor for “rail-less” mounting
