License Activation & Management

Activation and management of DigitalPersona LDS licenses is provided through the two license management tools described below.

License Activation Manager – A DigitalPersona LDS Server feature used to activate DigitalPersona licenses through Active Directory.

Remote License Tool – A DigitalPersona LDS Server tool used for activating DigitalPersona Server licenses for a computer that is not connected to the internet. This tool is run on a computer that has an internet connection and a license file is generated which can then be use to license the unconnected computer. The tool can be found in the product package within the Remote License Tool folder.

IMPORTANT: Any activation of DigitalPersona Licenses (from the DigitalPersona LDS Server or when activating a license through the Remote License Tool), requires access to the following URL:

https://solo.digitalpersona.com.

This URL is also accessed when verifying licenses from the link in the Active Directory GPME License Properties dialog for the DigitalPersona LDS Server.

Type of licenses

There are two types of DigitalPersona user licenses available for use with the DigitalPersona LDS configuration.

  • DigitalPersona Premium Employee License – Permits the enrollment of user credentials and subsequent use by a specified number of users. These users may be AD users or Non AD users.
  • DigitalPersona Customer Facing License – Permits the enrollment of user credentials and subsequent use by a specified number of Non AD users only.

License activation

The DigitalPersona LDS user licenses are issued in a single DigitalPersona License file with an extension of .dplic, and activated by the administrator through the Active Directory Group Policy Management Editor. The license must be activated in a local Group Policy Object on the computer where the DigitalPersona LDS Server is installed.

License Activation Manager

License Activation Manager is a Group Policy Object installed automatically as part of the DigitalPersona LDS Server installation. It provides an Active Directory-based means of installing DigitalPersona user licenses, and provides some basic information about the licenses.

  • If DigitalPersona LDS Server was installed on a member server (i.e. not a domain controller), you may need to add the Group Policy Management feature in order to see or edit the DigitalPersona LDS specific group
  • In order to edit the policies on the domain controller, when DigitalPersona LDS Server was installed on a member server, you will need to install the DigitalPersona LDS Administration Tools in order to see the DigitalPersona- specific group

After installation of DigitalPersona LDS Server, a new container, DigitalPersona Server, can be accessed through the local Microsoft Management Console (mmc). This implements the Licenses Group Policy Object, used to activate licenses for the DigitalPersona LDS solution.

Server activation from another computer

If your DigitalPersona LDS Server does not have access to the internet, you can activate it remotely through the use of any computer that has internet access.

This procedure will use the License Activation (.dplic) file and its associated password provided with your purchase to generate an Activation Request (.xml) file on the DigitalPersona LDS Server computer. This file is then copied to a computer with internet access and used to generate an Activation Response (.xml) file. Finally, this file is used on the original DigitalPersona LDS Server computer to activate the DigitalPersona LDS Server license.
